LOPEZPALOOZA: SPECIAL GUEST CORINA LOPEZ
San Leandro city council candidate Corina Lopez visits the East Bay Citizen TnT Podcast. Lopez talks about the lack of Latinos in San Leandro government, her plans for boosting the city’s economic fortunes and calls the green salsa at East 14th Street’s Taqueria Los Pericos as good or better than her mother’s (that’s big). It’s all here on the East Bay’s only political podcast–the EastBayCitizen.com TnT Podcast.
Also, a big announcement on The Citizen’s plans to expand its pages to food next month. Watch out! Here comes San Leandro Bites!
Hey is Mr. Big Portagee Mouth himself; N. Edweirdo Terry going to be present when Chicken Legs Mestas does her interview? I hope these two horn dogs don't break out in a sweat at the sight of a female.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a frickin' minute. You mean to tell me that Mike Katz, the fiery atheist and liberal is either;
1. Sending his kids to Roosevelt School.
2. Washington or McKinley School has the highest test scores?
I thought that when that greasy jelly roll ran 4 years ago he was bragging about how his kids were going to attend either Washington or McKinley. One of those two I forget which. Anyway, he's a typical big mouth, lying, Commie Atheist. NO NEWS HERE!

Someone should tell him its 2010 and the Berkeley look is a little out dated. I vote against him because he looks like the guy we try and guard our kids from.

His kids go to the best grade school in San Leandro, with the highest scores and a throng of concerned parents. He should be worrying about the other schools and thank God he could send his kids out of their neighborhood to the “creme de la creme” of San Leandro schools.

Hey Tavares, why don't you interview Mike Katz and ask him about “questioning” his decision to send his kids to San Leandro Public Schools? Hell, we should be quesitoning why he's even on the School Board to begin with.

Frank,
Sara is 33 and Corina is 40. The Daily Review Reporter Jason Sweeney did a good job on basic reliable facts, something that Steve and Nick are still trying to master. I am sure that both Steve and Commissioner Boy both keep their high school year books close. and dream of what was not ever going to happen. It is clear that given a chance both of them would dip their pens in whatever ink they could get. Both of them are better looking than Pauline so I say just let it be. Neither candidate is much more than a figure head for Boss Santos anyway. Mel

I hate to be the one to tell you this; but you did conduct yourself like Charlie Rose; soft ball questions. I realize that you and Corina are around the same age, but did you have to act like you were interviewing her for Homecoming Queen? You had several good questions posted to ask her and instead you chose to ask about “salsa” and “Mexicans”. Why didn't you break out the castanets and maraca's and cha cha cha with her? I thought it was Howard Stern doing an interview.

Business is given so much attention. Creating retail jobs may be nice for consumers but they are usually dead end jobs for employees. I wish the debate could address the needs of the high percent of San Leandrians working in low wage service sector jobs (including bloggers) and barely staying alive economically.

Manuel, this has to stop. Twice now we are in agreement. Corina represents all of the Mexicans in San Leandro who went to Princeton and came to San Leandro to live. She is like every other nickel politician. Whatever someone wants, she supports. Then when elected she forgets what she supported and joins the special interests that paid for her. Steve, it is a shame that you did not pin her down. Pretty light weight.

OK, so I listened, and I was unimpressed by her. She represents the Mexican's about as much as Tony Santos represents the Portuguese, Jack Maltester the Calabrian/Italians or Mario Polvorosa the drunks; they represent NO group other than their own interests. There was nothing in her gab fest with Tavares' where she brought up any sound proposals that deal with all 72,000 residents of San Leandro. All I heard was generalities and platitudes. No wonder Galvan is supporting her.

We need better and more interesting retailers in town, including new contemporary grocery retailers to give competition to our “take us for granted” Safeway and Lucky's, we also need more fun restaurants, shops and bars downtown to attract families, singles and the Gen Y and Millenials to our city to give it some life and interest, we need lofts and new housing for younger people and we need to reinvent our warehouse areas to attract tech startups, artists and other “creative classes” or we will soon perish as a declining 1st tier older suburb. What is your plan to reinvent San Leandro for the next decade and make it attractive to the next generation?

You are supporting Measure Z, why should the City be raising taxes, not only in a recession but when most retailers and chain restaurants shun San Leandro?
Several years ago the citizens of San Leandro were LIED to by the City that by increasing business licenses and fees that the City's finances would be better, that Police would be funded. The opposite is true. Given that FACT why do you continue to support Measure Z? (Please, no white-wash answer about the national economy.)
Given that we are located near Silicon Valley, we have very few tech firms in San Leandro. The Utility Users Tax makes San Leandro highly uncompetitive for industries that are reliant on electricity. (Are not we all in a modern society?) Why do we need to have a utility users tax when we need to create jobs and attract quality, high skill jobs?
Why are we allowing City Employees to pad their pay with excess overtime and benefits? Isn't that a little like letting the children run the house? What are YOUR goals for pension reform? Or are you just out looking for City Employees not taxpayers?
Why are we allowing City Employees to retire at age 50 and putting the taxpayers on the hook for these people's pensions for the next 40 years? (Please no ignoramous answer about people dying at age 58 either.)
