State Sen. Ellen Corbett, Rep. Eric Swalwell

CONGRESS//15TH DISTRICT//CAMPAIGN FINANCE | Less than nine months until the June 2014 primary, freshman Rep. Eric Swalwell possesses a campaign war chest four times larger than fellow Democrat State Sen. Ellen Corbett, his likely opponent for the 15th Congressional District.
Swalwell built upon a strong fundraising performance from earlier this year, according to the campaign finance reports released Wednesday, with $279,428 in contributions. Through the current election cycle, Swalwell has raised $807,936. As of Sept. 30, the campaign maintains $614,262 cash-on-hand after $69,598 in expenditures. Swawell has spent $223,520 total for his re-election during this cycle, according to the report.
One-third of the Swalwell’s contributions, however, came from political action committees in the the defense, pharmaceutical, and medical industries. Overall, 40 percent of Swalwell’s contributions have come from special interests groups.
Among the political class, Swalwell received donations this election cycle from campaign committees associated with Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) ($4,000); Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) ($2,000) and Francisco Zermeno for Hayward Mayor ($500).
In addition, former Assemblymember John Dutra, Sr. contributed $2,500 to Swalwell’s campaign; his son, former Fremont Council candidate John Dutra, Jr. ($2,700); former Alameda County Sheriff Tom Orloff ($1,500); former Assemblymember Fiona Ma ($250); former state controller Steve Westly ($2,000) and former Hayward school boardmember Jesus Armas ($500).
Corbett, however, has continued a somewhat languid pace in attracting campaign finance, raising $36,502 during the period ending Sept. 30, according to finance reports. During this election cycle, Corbett has raised $240,512 in campaign contributions. After spending just $9,268 during the past filing period, Corbett reports $143,417 cash-in-hand, according to finance reports.
Much of Corbett’s fundraising draws upon her strong contacts in San Leandro where she was once mayor and the State Senate. Campaign committees for State Sens. Darrell Steinberg and Mark Leno both gave $1,000 during the last reporting period. The re-election committee of Swalwell’s past opponent, Pete Stark, also donated $2,000 toward the defeat of his young rival. Union City Mayor Carol Vernaci contributed $350, according the finance report.
Patrick Kennedy, the founder of innovative San Leandro data processing company, OsiSoft, along with his wife, contributed a total of $10,000 to Corbett’s campaign. Among other notable contributors is San Leandro businessman Anthony Batarse ($2,300); Attorney and current San Leandro Zoning and Adjustments Commissioner Philip Daly ($1,200) and Alameda County labor leader Josie Camacho ($500).

Whorbett wants to try and run against Stark again but congressman Swalwell is too smart and popular to let that happen. Eventually it will boil down to Whorbett running on her merits and accomplishments, and congressman Swalwell running on his merits and accomplishments. I think it's fair to say Whorebett has accomplished very little and congressman Swalwell has accomplished much more. Bitch loses in a landslide.

I like Ellen too but I don't know if she will win by much. I'll take 52-48 and be immensely happy, and I'll bet Corbett will too. I do agree when Swalwell was on the Dublin City Council he did nothing and so far in Congress also has authored no significant legislation, but has signed on to other Dems bills. Ellen Corbett, by contrast, has authored signifiant legislation benefitting the middle class and lower middle class.

Agree with 9:00 PM, my family and I will never vote for Swalwell again, he's screwed up right and left, as the citizen has pointed out, and he seems to be devoid of any principles. I'm a conservative who lives in Livermore and will vote for anyone else before that two faced attorney. Like it or not, I do know where Corbett stands. Even though I disagree with some of the things she does, I like her as a person and will vote for her if the choice is between the two of them.

I actually signed up for Obamacare and it was cheaper for me with a better policy. Even though I agree with this particular vote, I have seen Ellen at more events I go to and will be voting for her next year. I think she has accomplished more for the middle class and poor and I trust her to do more for us than Eric.

As noted in both the San Francisco Chronicle and the Hayward Daily Review (Argus, Tri Valley, etc ) Corbett was part of, if not the most aggressive legislator trying to pressure the BART board members into giving away the store to the BART unions.
This, after the public had made it clear that they wanted BART to hold firm with the 12% wage offer and to demand more contributions for pensions and especially medical and dental.
Corbett was part of the Thursday night arm twisting trying to prevent a strike by caving in to the unions.
The public saw those legislators as selling out the public's interests. Both that of taxpayers and fare paying passengers.
The, the BART management under pressure, including that from legislators like Corbett, caved in and gave away the store.
Popping up the wage offer from 12.0% to 15.38% overnight.
Anger is not a unreasonable word for how most of the public felt.
Corbett was leading the charge to have BART cave in to the excess demands.
She can't disown the play she made to get the union vote and campaign money from the BART workers.
I'm thinking many moderate Democrats West of the hills as well as everyone East of the hills is not going to be pleased with Corbett's working behind their backs to foist higher future fares onto the riders so that BART workers can keep their lofty compensation packages.
Perhaps Corbett can explain why she was fighting to have BART union members get their entire families covered for full medical, dental and vision for only $129 a month when many of us are paying over $500 a month for one person and that, without any dental at all.
Gold plated benefits and a excessive pay raise is what Corbett's pressure tactics contribute to.
Guess who will be paying that bill over the next 5 to 10 years?
The very same voters who reside in the congressional district that Corbett wants to win.
Most of us won't forget her pressuring our BART board members to vote against our interests.

This Adele Kanickerbocker, I'm the mother of Dorcas Wentzel, the one they call Space Ho. I just want to apologize to everyone on behalf of my adopted daughter. The entire congressional district is inside the BART district.
As noted in both the San Francisco Chronicle and the Hayward Daily Review (Argus, Tri Valley, etc ) Corbett was part of, if not the most aggressive legislator trying to pressure the BART board members into giving away the store to the BART unions.
This, after the public had made it clear that they wanted BART to hold firm with the 12% wage offer and to demand more contributions for pensions and especially medical and dental.
Corbett was part of the Thursday night arm twisting trying to prevent a strike by caving in to the unions.
The public saw those legislators as selling out the public's interests. Both that of taxpayers and fare paying passengers.
The, the BART management under pressure, including that from legislators like Corbett, caved in and gave away the store.
Popping up the wage offer from 12.0% to 15.38% overnight.
Anger is not a unreasonable word for how most of the public felt.
Corbett was leading the charge to have BART cave in to the excess demands.
She can't disown the play she made to get the union vote and campaign money from the BART workers.
I'm thinking many moderate Democrats West of the hills as well as everyone East of the hills is not going to be pleased with Corbett's working behind their backs to foist higher future fares onto the riders so that BART workers can keep their lofty compensation packages.
Perhaps Corbett can explain why she was fighting to have BART union members get their entire families covered for full medical, dental and vision for only $129 a month when many of us are paying over $500 a month for one person and that, without any dental at all.
Gold plated benefits and a excessive pay raise is what Corbett's pressure tactics contribute to.
Guess who will be paying that bill over the next 5 to 10 years?
The very same voters who reside in the congressional district that Corbett wants to win.
Most of us won't forget her pressuring our BART board members to vote against our interests.

I just read Tavares's article and it definitely said Swalwell took significant contributions from the medical, defense, pharmaceutical and other special interests. This means we taxpayers get screwed again. I'm personally tired of paying 5 times what they pay in Canada for the same drugs, more than any other industrialized nation for my health care, and more than all the nations of the world put together for our military industrial corporations. Taking money from these a–holes is B.S. and leads to corruption of our government congressional representatives. I know many of us voted for Swallwell against Stark, but will vote for Ellen because she has more experience and is a much nicer person than either of the above. She also doesn't flip flop on issues.

Dutra's still trying to beat Corbett … you all remember when Daddy Dutra tried to buy the state senate seat? He spent millions on fancy tv ads, signs that literally peppered the area, and hired a bunch of kids with no real allegiance to him or his policies. Well how did that turn out?
