CONGRESS | 15TH DISTRICT | Rep. Eric Swalwell has recently sought a middle ground between being Tel Aviv’s man in the East Bay and showing a modicum of compassion for Palestinians killed during the conflict in Gaza.
Rep. Eric Swalwell and Israel Prime Minister
Benyamin Netanyahu last week.

In fact, a pattern has emerged. First, Swalwell describes strong support for Israel and then waits a day or two to level the balance sheet with a perfunctory few words for Gaza. Of course, the two acts never come close to equal and some of his constituents sense the inequity. That’s why dozens made the Israeli-Gaza conflict nearly the sole topic of his most recent town hall this month in San Lorenzo.
Swalwell has always been known as someone who craves attracting national attention to himself, so his glee in being able to tweet a photo of himself Thursday with Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu (to the right) was not surprising. But, before the response from pro-Gaza activists became too shrill, the expected other shoe dropped.
On Friday, Swalwell tweeted a photo of himself (above) hilariously looking like a CIA agent from central casting. Don’t worry, Swalwell is in Gaza to sort it all out. That, or he’s looking to buy a pair of shoes at the local bazaar.
Meanwhile, Swalwell’s trip to Middle East continued today. He chatted with Egypt’s president as militants beheaded another American journalist. Unfortunately, Swalwell’s track record when it comes to the vexing problems of our times is unproven, at best. He and Sully Sullenberger still haven’t found that Malaysian Airlines plane in the Indian Ocean.
The United Nations needs to set a deadline for Israel to end it's occupation of lands captured in the 1967 war and make way for an independent Palestinian state. Israel also needs to stop taking land from the Palestinians through settlements.
Swalwell needs stop listening to one of the most powerful lobby in Washington D.C. and work for peace. He's supposed to represent ALL the people, not just the ones who give him money.

It's the American taxpayer that's paying for this war through our over generous 3.5 billion gift to the war Machine of Israel. Not only that we are paying for that Iron Dome that Israel hides behind so that it can steal land from the Palestinians and build new settlements. They need to go back to the 1967 borders set by the United Nations and sit down and negotiate with Abbas not Hamas for a Palestinian state. I'm tired of our taxpayer money being wasted on Israel who has NO desire to sit down with us and Abbas to negotiate a peace settlement.

The uninteresting one is you 8:51. Talk about a tiring and boring post. Not everyone who opposes this war is an anti-semite or anti-Swalwell. Many of us are opposed to to what both sides are doing. Swalwell is our Congressman and he should be trying to bring peace to this region. Both sides are at fault. The continuation of the Israelis building settlements on Palestinian land is the problem. Until the confiscated land is given back and the settlements stop, the war will continue.

“This is not a positive step — it contradicts international law and will have negative consequences on the peace process,” a foreign ministry statement in Cairo said.
The foreign ministry did not mention the Gaza truce talks, but insisted that Israel's planned West Bank land grab would be “an obstacle” to a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians.
Rights watchdog Amnesty International similarly denounced the Israeli plans, saying that it “appears to be the largest land grab in the occupied Palestinian territories since 1980.”
“Israel’s strategy of illegally confiscating land for settlements in the West Bank must stop once and for all,” said Amnesty's Philip Luther.
The Palestinians have called for diplomatic action against Israel, while Israeli peace campaigners said the land expropriation is the biggest of its kind in three decades.

Thank you, congressman.
You've got our back and we've got yours!
Good riddance to Fortney's anti-Semitic losers. They're in the gutter where they belong.

The continuation of the Israelis building settlements on Palestinian land is the problem. Until the confiscated land is given back and the settlements stop, the war will continue.

Israel has one of the biggest groups of lobbyists in Washington D.C. Swalwell is just one of the politicians they have bought.

Remember I've said BOTH Israel and Hamas is wrong. They need to go back to the boundaries the United Nations set up. Instead Israel keeps taken more Palestinian land and building settlements that prevent peace from happening. I guess when you are losing an argument you resort to name calling.

For those asking about my future plans, I have decided to accept an offer from Platinum Advisors in Sacramento. I'll be whoring for the unions; this is a natural fit for me since it's what I would have done had a miracle happened and I actually won the election. That was NEVER going to happen. I'm also going to accept Congressman Swalwell's generous offer to do an internship in his district office. This is about as close to congress as I will ever get. From what I understand one of my responsibilities will be baking cookies. The staffers work so very hard and deserve home-baked treats. Anyone know of any good cookbooks? I really need to bone up. That's the latest for now. I'll keep you updated from time to time.

Members of congress accept 'perks' as you put it from many different countries. The last time I checked he is represents this district and its voters very well.
Why don't you get off your anti-Semitic hate wagon and go crawl back under the rock from whence you came? You people can't accept the fact that we now have a congressman–who has just been re-elected–and actually gives a damn about Israel and other subjects that the ultra-radical left-wing fringe hates.
You lost when your man Fortney was permanently retired to his rocker in Maryland. This is a moderate district in 2014 and is going to stay that way. Get over it already.

Eric needs to show balance. He's a congressman for us not Israel even though he's accepting their money and perks.

I guess the author pines for the days when the district was represented by a resident of Maryland, and only the left side of the road was used.

Tavares, I don't know if Swallwell took your lunch money as a kid, or gave you a wedgie, but you sure take every chance to take a swipe at everything he does. Can't say this is actually reporting, more TMZ like.
