BART | AC TRANSIT | Incumbents in all four East Bay transportation races cruised to victory Tuesday night.
BART District 4 board director Robert Raburn staved off a well-funded bid by Alameda Councilmember Lena Tam for the seat representing the island and parts of Oakland and San Leandro.
Raburn’s role in the BART strike riled many in the district’s labor movement, but Tam’s pro-union credentials fell short on Election Day and may have even been undercut by the third member in the race, Larry Lionel Young, Jr.
Raburn earned 53.7 percent of the vote over Tam’s 35.3 percent and Young who garnered 10.4 percent.
Three AC Transit contests sent incumbents back to their board of directors seats led by notorious At-Large Director Joel Young, who, despite his lengthy list of negative beat two challengers.
Young, with 53.5 percent of the vote, topped former AC Transit bus driver Dollene Jones, who finished a distant second at 33.7 percent. Adrienne Andrews followed with 12.1 percent.
AC Transit Ward 4 Director Mark Williams won re-election with 58.2 percent over Murphy McCalley’s 40.8 percent. In addition, Ward 5 Director Jeff Davis beat Kewal Singh by a 56-44 percent margin.
I am a BART rider and I'm glad Raburn said he would work with the unions to try and prevent another strike and admitting the Board's mistake in picking the negotiator that didn't know what a compromise was. If they would have compromised earlier on public and employee's safety concerns, a strike could have been avoided and 2 employees wouldn't be dead.

I agree the voter turn out in 2016 will be much larger and much more progressive. This spells doom for Baker who won in an extremely low turn out year with a much higher percentage of conservative voters. I know my spouse and I will be voting in 2016 and will be voting for Tim Sbranti if he runs.
As far as Robert Rayburn is concerned, he is a Democrat, was supported by most unions, and promised the BART unions he made a mistake and would work with them in helping secure a better contract next time.

Love the fact that the people's choice candidates, the union backed Democrats, won ALL the statewide races and most of the local ones in spite of the out-of town conservatives pouring millions of dollars into local and state races. Most of us liberals are very happy with the way the California elections went, including the dozens and dozens of bay area victories. The unions and environmentalists racked up huge wins.

So glad that we have dear Catharine Baker for the next 12 years. She will be with us for long time to come, and we are blessed.
Also, great news that we have Bob Raburn back again. No more BART strikes with Bob at the helm!

To the above poster, are you really that stupid? Chuck Reed wouldn't have a chance against Gavin Newsome or Kamala Harris and Glazer came in third in his Assembly race.
Also, clean up your language if you want anyone to take you seriously. From what I can read in the above posts the Democrats and the unions are very happy that they won almost all the races in our area and so am I.
The people's choice winners were the Democrats and Labor Candidates as they won over 95% of the races in the Bay Area. The loser was the anti-union poster above.

My husband and I also could never bring ourselves to support dirty union whores. We don't believe in robbing the taxpayers' pockets to line those of filthy special interests.
Our sincere thanks to the person who continues to defend us over the larded union sluts. Our household is solidly behind Governor Chuck Reed and our next state senator Steve Glazer. As life-long Democrats, we had no trouble supporting clean Cathy Baker over the dirty incompetent who went down to defeat. Thanks to the independent-minded voters in the district clean politicians who are not beholden to the corrupt union whores will rule the day for decades to come.
Thank you to the People's Choice winners!

To the sexist anti-union poster:
You lost every statewide race, most local and county races, and by my count only won 4 races in all of the Bay Area. I like those odds and percentages.
Swalwell has a very liberal voting record, and had many liberal endorsements. More unions backed Raburn than backed Tam, and Raburn has admitted to bringing in the wrong labor negotiator that helped cause the strike. Liccardo has already promised to try and patch up his discord with the employees, and Baker will probably lose in 2016 when there will be a much larger and progressive turn-out.
But I'm glad you are happy about your very small success rate. The sweet smell of victory was ours, and I think you know it, unless you are delusional.

Sacramento needs to do its job. No strikes=union thugs working for their masters, the public. Down with special interests.
Bob understands that, and Lena HO Tam would have been a union whore puppet.

Wow, whoever posted the last two posts hates unions and sure is a sexist. When I read your posts I just laughed and ignored what you said, as did anyone else who read this far. Sacramento will never ban strikes and you know it. The answer is-negotiate in good faith. Most of us know the strike was over public safety and worker safety. As a BART rider I appreciate Raburn admitting he made a mistake and will work with the unions to help them get a better contract next time. That's why I voted for him.
As far as Fang goes-don't know the man. As a Democrat I'm glad he was defeated by a Democrat. The Republicans are way to conservative for me.

The poster above doesn't understand that if you want no strikes you have to negotiate in good faith. Robert Raburn now understands that, and has promised that will happen during the next negotiations.
The problem with the poster who is anti-union above, IS as the unions shrink, so does the middle class. We need the good wages and benefits the unions provide to keep our economy strong. Congrats to the over 95% of the union and democratic backed candidates that won in our area. They were the People's Choice!

Most of the unions, especially building trades were very happy Robert Raburn won re-election. He has told the unions that he made a mistake in supporting the hiring of the anti union negotiator, and will work with the BART unions to help prevent another strike that inconveniences the public. He is a strong environmentalist who doesn't want another strike, and will work with the unions to better understand their problems.

You have never been more wrong 7:44. Go to Robert Raburn's website. He had far more money and support from unions, including mine, than Tam. Don't let the facts get in the way of your prejudice.

Most unions supported Raburn. You should check your facts. Go to Raburns website and you will see. Robert got a lot of money from the trade unions because he supported the unions on the Bart to Oakland airport extension. Tam wasn't liked in Alameda because of her pro-development stanch. Raburn out spent Tam with Union money.
