Haggerty wants Pride flag to fly over Alameda County buildings

Alameda County Supervisor Scott Haggerty

Alameda County Supervisor Scott Haggerty wants to begin the process of amending the county’s flag display policy to include the rainbow LGBT Pride flag, but while that’s being done, raise the flag over county buildings this month to observe Pride month.

EBC AGENDA slate“Within a nation that was founded upon and is guided by a set of principles that includes that every person has been created equal, that every person has the right to their life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, the County of Alameda shall develop a Flag Display Policy that embraces this notion of inclusion and equality,” Haggerty wrote in a memo to the Board of Supervisors last week.

The flag display discussion is scheduled for Tuesday morning’s Board of Supervisors meeting.

The item comes after a firestorm of criticism that followed the Dublin City Council’s decision on May 21 against flying the iconic LGBT banner over its city hall.

Dublin is expected to reconsider the decision Tuesday night. Haggerty represents Dublin on the Board of Supervisors.
