GOVERNOR | Former East Bay lawmaker Delaine Eastin’s bid for California governor is officially open for business.
“Eastin for Governor 2018” was registered with the state Secretary of State’s office on Tuesday. However, the campaign’s coffers are literally bare. No activity is shown.
It’s a stark difference with her likely opponents, Lt. Gov. Gavin Newson and former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who dueled Tuesday in a match of which candidate could boast more about their campaign largess.
Earlier in the day, Villaraigosa said he had matched expectations by raising $2.7 million in campaign contribution, a figure that exceeded expectations.

Later, in a bid to possibly assuage any early fears about Newsom’s own campaign finances, he also announced $2.7 million in contributions over the same period, but also an additional $11.5 million in separate accounts.

Meanwhile, Eastin’s decidedly long-shot bid for governor after more than 13 years out of public office is not without some strengths. For one, the lack of potential female candidates in the 2018 race favors Eastin as does her extensive experience.
She began her political career on the Union City City Council, followed by eight years in the Assembly. Most voters statewide are familiar with Eastin after she served as state superintendent of instruction. She was termed out of office in 2002.

You may be correct, Anonymous. I've known Delaine for over 45 years and she has never been a sleezeball. She has a lot of integrity and is eager to help all Californians, especially in educating the next generation.

Based on the “standards” of Democratic Party style California politics, it would be illegal for Delaine Eastin to have any high elected office related to our state.
In other words she is not a lawyer, I do not believe she is married to a lawyer, and I do not believe she even has any extremely close relatives who are lawyers.
For instance, Jerry Brown and Gray Davis are both lawyers, Willie Brown, Bill Lockyer, and John Burton, and who were far and away the most powerful members of the state legislature California has had over the last few decades, are all lawyers, Dianne Feinstein' daughter is a lawyer and DF's first husband was also a lawyer (in fact DF and her first husband met when they were both employees of SF's DA's office), Pelosi has lawyers in her immediate family, Barbara Boxer's husband and son are both lawyers, and in fact almost every single major power broker over the last few decades in California politics has been a member, or at least closely related to a member, of the sleaziest major mafia of all time, in other words the modern American legal profession.
While occasionally California's Republican Party has nominated someone for high office who was not a lawyer, however the Democrats almost never do, and I see no reason for the DP to start now and allow someone in the club who is not an already proven sleazeball and also with a license to steal and embezzle from the California State Bar.
