Mayor Jean Quan concedes following a
disappointing third-place finish.

OAKLAND | MAYOR | Mayor Jean Quan conceded victory Wednesday afternoon following a disappointing third-place finish in Tuesday’s ranked choice election. Her time in the mayor’s office will last just one term after Councilmember Libby Schaaf’s stunning victory just after midnight.
“I want to congratulate Councilwoman Libby Schaaf on being elected the next Mayor of Oakland,” said Quan. “She inherits a city where crime is down, unemployment is down, city finances are strong, police reforms are near completion, and the economic renaissance is well under way.”
Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan, the second-place finisher following ranked choice tabulations, has not yet conceded. Kaplan conceded the race Wednesday evening.
In statement, Quan pledged to offer Mayor-elect Libby Schaaf support in the transition between the two administrations and thanks her campaign’s supporters and volunteers.
“It has been a profound honor to serve the people of Oakland these last 20 years: as a school board member, as a councilmember, and as mayor. I plan to work hard during my remaining weeks to move projects forward and will always be active in the city I love.”

City finances are strong?
Only if you ignore the huge deferment Quan made things like street repair. She only balanced budgets by sucking money out of the normal repairs that keep a city from falling apart.
Then she handed that needed money to city unions in sweetheart contracts.
She is like a mother who says her family finances are strong, but fails to mention that none of her children have seen a dentist in 4 years, and the car hasn't had a oil change in 20,000 miles.
Quan budgets are full of hidden disasters waiting to happen due to horrible neglect and transfers of funds away from basic maintenance.
