BART BOARD OF DIRECTORS
BART trains already travel through three major Bay Area sanctuary cities–Oakland, San Francisco, and Berkeley. Now, the transit authority, itself, may move to become a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants using its trains.
BART Board Directors Nick Josefowitz and Lateefah Simon proposed Thursday that the transit system seek sanctuary status for its riders. The proposal is due to be scheduled at the board’s next committee meeting, said BART Board President Rebecca Saltzman.
“Over 500K undocumented immigrants live in the Bay Area & many use #BART to get to their jobs, schools, places of worship & community,” Simon tweeted Thursday. “We will be safer on #BART if law enforcement is focused on real security issues & not enforcing federal immigration laws on riders.”

Simon represents BART stations in Oakland, Berkeley and El Cerrito. Josefowitz represents San Francisco stations from Balboa Park to Embarcadero.
During the meeting, several public speakers charged BART Police with coordinating the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
BART General Manager Grace Crunican said, while the policy exists, it has not been enforced by BART during her tenure. “We haven’t contacted ICE in a long time,” said Crunican.
For common transit-related criminal offenses such as fare evasion, BART Police typically arrests the suspect and transports them to the local law enforcement jurisdiction, said a BART Police representative, “and we’re finished with them.”
Several public speakers describing themselves as undocumented immigrants praised the BART Board’s interest in becoming a sanctuary agency. Simon thanked law enforcement in the building for pledging not to a question those voluntarily describing their immigration status during the meeting. “I hope we continue to create a safe space for all of our riders,” said Simon.

Since everybody else is getting in the business of declaring themself a sanctuary, I am also going to join the crowd.
I am gong to start an extremely small business, and such as a tiny newspaper stand or a grocery store much smaller than any 7-11, and then declare myself a sanctuary.
And decades ago back when I lived in the Frost Belt, one of the college students in the neighborhood made a few extra dollars by running an extremely part-time bicycle repair business. He ran it out of the house or apartment he was renting, and I don't think he spent mere than ten hours a week on it. But if he was running such an operation today and in the Bay area, he could have declared his business to be a sanctuary.

Some years ago after the SF Board of Supervisors had a staged and choreographed temper tantrum, I believe that was back in the 1980's, relating to a then recent incident in which the SFPD had coordinated with Immigration – and following their staged, scripted, choreographed, and supposedly spontaneous temper tantrum, the SF Board of Supervisors then passed legislation inhibiting future cooperation btwn the SFPD and Immigration.
That caused SF DA Arlo Smith to then take things even much further in regard to sanctuary, and AS then even decided that undocumented aliens should not be arrested even for major felonies, since if they were, they would then be less invisible, and then they then might end up being deported.
While technically it was the job of the PD to choose whether to or not to make arrests, however since DA Arlo Smith had decided he would not prosecute, that caused the PD to not arrest even undocumented aliens who were openly dealing drugs. However that idiotic policy caused such an extreme backlash from the general public, that therefore SF then “altered” the policy to pretend it would arrest and prosecute undocumenteds who sold drugs. However in reality nothing had really changed very much, and undocumenteds still pretty much had carte blanche to sell and deal drugs in SF.
And when one of the Assistant DA's prosecuted an undocumented alien who had committed a felony, Arlo Smith arranged to have him forced out of the office and fired.
However so as to keep on receiving federal money, sometimes San Francisco does pretend to cooperate with Immigration. The way it generally does so is by releasing an undocumented alien, and then making out backdated paperwork so as to give the impression that supposedly it had informed Immigration that it had been holding an undocumented alien.
However in actuality usually SF first releases the undocumented alien, and then after the UA is gone, then SF makes out backdated paperwork which it pretends was sent to Immigration before the UA had been released.
IF YOU WANT TO LEARN HOW TO BE AN EXTREMELY SLEAZY LAWYER, ONE OF THE BEST WAYS IN THE WORLD TO DO SO IS BY FIRST GETTING A JOB WITH SF CITY GOVERNMENT AND GETTING TRAINING IN BEING A PROFESSIONAL PATHOLOGICAL LIAR AND ALL AROUND SCUMBAG.
