East Bay Rep. Eric Swalwell told CNN Sunday night that the effort by President Donald Trump‘s lawyers are trying to discredit the recently fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe because they are worried he may have information to offer Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller in the Russian collusion investigation.
“To me, being a former prosecutor, it looks like they’re trying to dirty him up,” said Swalwell, a member of the House Intelligence Comittee. “They figure that there’s more charges from Mueller coming down the pike and that eventually McCabe is going to be a figure in a trial, and if they can dirty up now, put an asterisk in his role, that could mitigate their exposure.”
