In the waning days of Gov. Jerry Brown’s political career, he announced 12 appointments to several superior courts across the state Wednesday, including 2 in Alameda County.

Brown appointed Clifford T. Blakely, Jr., 48, to one Alameda County Superior Court post. Blakeley, a deputy in the county Public Defender’s Office since 2014, replaces retiring Superior Court Judge Gloria F. Rhynes. Blakely lives in Moraga and is a registered Democrat.

Karin S. Schwartz, 54, was also named by Brown. She replaces Superior Court Judge Ioana Petrou, who was recently named to the state Court of Appeal. Schwartz has served as deputy director and chief counsel at the California Department of Public Health since 2013. She lives in Sacramento and is also a registered Democrat.
