When Rep. Eric Swalwell attempted to ask acting U.S. Attorney General Matthew Whitaker whether his former company received contributions from foreign donors during a House Judiciary Committee Friday, Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) objected to Swalwell early line of questioning, setting off a moment of smack talk between the two congressmembers.
Collins, pictured, told Swalwell that the question was outside the scope of the committee’s 
hearing.
“Mr. Collins,” Swalwell shot back, “if you want to sit down there with his lawyers, you can go sit down there. But you’re not his lawyer.”
Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) determined the objection was not warranted, but not before Collins issued a stinging retort for Swalwell, who is seriously eyeing a run for president in 2020.
“And neither are you, Mr. Swalwell,” said Collins, “and if you asked questions that are actually part of this instead of running for president we could get this done.”
Seemingly wanting to gain the last word before Nadler called for order, Swalwell told Collins, “You can sit down there. There’s room.”
