A’s ballpark bill comes before Assembly committee Monday

An Assembly bill that could aid a future exchange of trust lands for a new Oakland Athletics waterfront ballpark, faces its first legislative hurdle Monday.

Assembly Bill 1191 comes before the Assembly Natural Resources Committee Monday morning, April 22 at 2:30 p.m. in Sacramento.

The bill, introduced by Oakland Assemblymember Rob Bonta, follows a media relations blitz this week by maritime businesses and labor unions at the Port of Oakland, who oppose the team building a ballpark at Howard Terminal.

The Port of Oakland is also in talks with the Athletics about leasing the former terminal to the team in order to build the privately financed stadium.

  1. The outcome of this bill will tell us a lot about Smilin’ Rob Bonta and how much he is respected by the Port Unions.
