Democratic presidential candidate Julián Castro will receive a tour of a homeless encampment near the Home Depot at High Street and Alameda Avenue this Wednesday compliments of Oakland Councilmember Noel Gallo.

The encampment, notable for the large number of small RVs that ringed the streets near the Home Depot shopping center, cleared recently by the city, but with nominal success.

Gallo has repeatedly complained about the growing encampment for months, claiming numerous times that Home Depot had threatening to close the high sales tax-generating store if the encampment was not cleared.

According to a press release, Castro made the request to visit the encampment in District 5.

In addition, Castro will visit the Fruitvale BART Transit Village followed by a fundraising reception at Guadalajara Restaurant, across the street on Fruitvale Avenue.
