The East Bay Regional Park District Board of Directors appointed Elizabeth Echols to serve the remaining year of long-time Board Director Whitney Dotson’s four-year term.

Dotson announced his retirement last December after 11 years representing parks in the Berkeley and Richmond-centered region. Earlier this week, Dotson passed away.
Twelve applicants vied to replace Dotson. Echols will be sworn-in on Jan. 21.
The Ward 1 seat is up for election next November.
In 2014, Echols nearly won a seat in the Richmond and Berkeley 15th Assembly District. She bested a primary field of eight candidates, but lost the general election to Tony Thurmond.
Then-Gov. Jerry Brown named Echols as director of the independent Public Advocates Office at the California Public Utilities Commission in 2017.
