The periodic updates on East Bay Rep. Mark DeSaulnier’s health keep getting better.
DeSaulnier’s sons said Monday that he was discharged from an intensive care unit, but remains hospitalized as he recovers from pneumonia.
“This would be difficult enough at any time, but given the daily dangers we all face from the coronavirus, his path ahead is especially complicated,” they added.
“Our Dad is a fighter,” Tristan and Tucker DeSaulnier wrote on Twitter and in a press release, “he has made good progress.”
The Contra Costa County congressman was hospitalized for a fractured rib last month while running. He later developed pneumonia unrelated to covid-19, the family said.
On Mar. 21, DeSaulnier’s chief of staff announced his health had “deteriorated” and he was listed in critical condition. The tone of announcement elicited great worry among his constituents.
But a succession of later announcements leading to today’s appears to suggest DeSaulnier’s prognosis for recovery is becoming more positive.
