Alameda School Board Trustee Solana
Henneberry was first elected in 2014.
Alameda School Board Trustee Solana Henneberry passed away Tuesday from breast cancer. She was 44.
Henneberry won her first-term on the Alameda Unified School District Board of Trustees in 2014 and served as president of the board in 2016. She also taught special education in the West Contra Costa Unified School District.
In addition, Henneberry was also instrumental in the campaign last fall to renew the school district’s Measure B1 parcel tax.
“Board Member Henneberry was stalwart in her fight against this illness,” said Superintendent Sean McPhetridge, in a statement Tuesday. Henneberry was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago.
“As president, she did not miss a single Board of Education meeting, even when she was undergoing treatment. Her commitment and leadership were truly inspiring. We will remember her as someone who dedicated her life to public education, her community, and her family. Our thoughts are with her friends and family now as we all grapple with this great loss to the Alameda community.”
Henneberry is married to former Alameda planning board member and well-known East Bay union leader, Mike Henneberry.
She is also survived by her daughter Emma, and sons, Eamon and Finbar. A memorial service will be held at a time and location to be determined.
A donation account will be set up for the family in the days ahead, said the school district.
