‘If you want to play, you have to pay’: Larry Reid’s son found guilty of corruption

Taj Reid, the 47-year-old son of Oakland City Council President Larry Reid, was found guilty Thursday of rigging state construction contracts and accepting bribes, the East Bay Express reported.

The three counts could result in a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a $750,000 fine.

Councilmember Reid had no involvement with his son’s illegal deals, but according to the Express, Taj Reid had previously introduced the FBI informant to his father.

The conviction comes at a difficult time for Larry Reid, the longest-serving member of the Oakland City Council. Two weeks ago, Larry Reid was absent from a council meeting in order to visit his ailing mother in Ohio.
