Alameda County health officials ordered eight City of Alameda firefighters quarantined for potential exposure to the coronavirus (COVID-19).
An investigation by the Alameda County Public Health Department identified eight other Alameda firefighters who were in direct contact with the infected individual, the city said on Friday afternoon.
While awaiting results of testing for the coronavirus, the eight firefighters are currently quarantined, the city added.
After learning of the positive test late Tuesday afternoon, Alameda officials moved quickly to cancel all non-essential government events. The Alameda Unified School District did the same.
