A forthcoming mailer by an Independent Expenditure Committee supporting Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley, and funded with a $50,000 contribution from Alameda County Sheriff Greg Ahern’s re-election campaign, is focused on reminding voters that the incumbent DA is a Democrat.
According to a mock-up of one mailer obtained by the East Bay Citizen, the mailer features headshots of O’Malley, Gov. Jerry Brown, U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris and a satellite of six Alameda County mayors and three county supervisors who support O’Malley’s re-election. The header above the assemblage of headshots reads, “These Democrats agree…”
However, not everyone on the list is a Democrat, especially Republican Dublin Mayor David Haubert and Pleasanton Mayor Jerry Thorne. In addition, moderate Alameda County mayors like Alameda Mayor Trish Herrera Spencer, Livermore Mayor John Marchand and Fremont Mayor Lily Mei (featured on the back), are also included.
The piece is likely tailored to registered Democrats in Oakland and other areas that may be favorable to challenger Pamela Price’s progressive campaign.
An IE calling itself Forward Alameda received $50,000 from Sheriff Ahern’s campaign on May 23. The formation of the IE so late in the campaign is reminiscent of another formed during the last two weeks of Alameda County Supervisor Nate Miley’s 2016 re-election campaign against well-funded challenger Bryan Parker. The main source of the IE in support of Miley was from the cannabis industry.
and a few others are fairly moderate.
