Former Dublin Mayor Tim Sbranti is returning to public service after the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District Board of Trustees appointed him Tuesday to replace Carlo Vecchiarelli, the longtime trustee who retired in February .

Sbranti will serve Area 5 on the board, which represents Dublin, Pleasanton, and Sunol. Tuesday evening’s vote was unanimous.

The former mayor, who later worked as district director and deputy chief of staff for Rep. Eric Swalwell, will have little time before pivoting into campaign mode.

Sbranti inherits roughly the next 18 months of Vecchiarelli’s term, meaning he will need to run for his seat in November 2020.

Sbranti beat out six other applicants for the appointment, including former Pleasanton Councilmember Cheryl Cook-Kallio. He will be sworn-in at the board’s next meeting on April 16.
