Swalwell

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is the kind of guy who isn’t funny, but he’s the funniest guy in his group of unfunny guys, and therefore, thinks he’s a very funny person. But Cruz actually had a zinger for embattled East Bay Rep. Eric Swalwell on Thursday.

Amid an expanding story that Swalwell was the target of a spy from China, who placed an intern in his D.C. congressional office, bundled campaign contributions for his 2014 re-election campaign, all the while allegedly sleeping with the congressmember, Cruz tweeted:

“More than once, I’ve said ‘screw the Chinese communists.’ Little did I know how closely Swalwell was listening.”

News of Swalwell’s ties to the spy named Fang Fang, but known to East Bay politicos as Christine Fang, was reported by Axios on Monday. The investigation did not include Swalwell’s alleged dalliances with Fang, which had been rumored for several years in East Bay politics.

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson and others citing intelligence sources, said Swalwell had been involved in romantic relationship with Swalwell sometime in 2015 or before.

Conservative social media has met news of Swalwell’s predicament with glee, mocking him with memes associated with the movie Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, in addition, to a fair amount of clearly racist Asian tropes.

Swalwell has long been the target of ridicule from the right after years of strong criticism against President Trump during the Russia scandal.
