Cat Brooks says, ‘I love you Oakland’ in new campaign video

Last spring, New York congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s two-minute campaign video reset the course for underdog progressive candidates across the country. Ocasio-Cortez ultimately defeated 20-year Democratic Rep. Joe Crowley.

A similar dynamic exists in Oakland and mayoral candidate Cat Brooks is hoping to tap into a similar anxiety with the status quo in a new campaign video released Saturday.

Later in the video, Brooks she gazes into the camera and intones, “I love you Oakland.”

Brooks is in a 10-person field challenging Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf’s re-election on Nov. 6.

The 90-second video tracks Brooks’ resume as an Oakland activist using the bullhorn she has often used over the years to amplify the concerns of everyday Oaklanders.

“Ever since I was asked to run for mayor, some folks have been telling me to quiet down and change who I am. ‘You’re running for mayor now Cat,’ they say. ‘It’s time to put down the bullhorn and soften your message.’ But that’s not who I am.”

The video was created by filmmaker Frank Eaton who also produced an autobiographical spot this year for Texas Democratic congressional candidate MJ Hegar.

  1. I’m sorry, but although I admire Ms.Brooks work in the community, she is not qualified to be Mayor of Oakland
